Learning at Bonnet Bay Public School

Music

Music is a vibrant and integral part of school life at Bonnet Bay School . Opportunities are given by classroom teachers for students to learn about rhythm, notation, playing instruments and singing. The children are inspired by performances at the school by visiting groups such as Musica Viva and indigenous performers.

Our school also has two choirs and two bands, all of which perform regularly for the school and wider community.

Percussion Group

A small Year 3-6 percussion group trains during weekly enrichment/interest groups on Thursdays during school time. This group has come together for the first time this year and will perform at school events this year.

The Band Program

Children joining our expanding and successful Band Program commit to a weekly band rehearsal and a weekly instrumental lesson. The Training Band and Concert Band are led by professional Music Directors, trained at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. They guide the children's music development and enter the bands in appropriate competitions. Students currently receive training for saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, drums, flute and baritone.

The bands perform at school assemblies, the annual concert, awards night and other celebratory events. Other performance opportunities include delighting the children of local pre-schools and community festivals, such as the inaugural Festival of Instrumental Music at Sutherland Entertainment Centre.
