Starting KindergartenPreparing for School ProgramIt is an exciting time when a child begins the journey of formal education. Bonnet Bay School School provides a customised and comprehensive "Getting Started" program to ease the way for our valuable new students and their families. OrientationParents' Orientation Day is held in October and provides a detailed overview of life at Bonnet Bay School for students and their families. As part of the "Getting Started" program, parents and new students are invited to visit our school for four consecutive Friday mornings. Orientation mornings provide children with the opportunity to "practice" coming to school and to become familiar with their new school environment. Children will visit their classroom, toilets, playground, library, computer lab, canteen and other facilities. They will spend time with the current Kindergarten class and teachers and meet other children who will be starting school with them. This all helps children to know what to expect on their first day and takes away much of the "unknown". Buddy SystemEach new Kindergarten student is allocated a Year 6 student to become their "buddy". Year 6 students take on their "buddying" responsibilities with great enthusiasm. Over the first few weeks of school life they provide comfort, support, guidance and of course great friendship to the new students. New Kindergarten children will meet their buddies at orientation and are welcomed by them on their first day of school. Regular buddy activities take place on a weekly basis throughout the year. These Buddy relationships often develop into friendships which last many years.
